Drug and Alcohol Use
It is recognized that the use of alcohol, recreational marijuana, illegal drugs or substances may have serious adverse effects on an employee’s health, safety, and job performance.

All workers (employees and volunteers) are expected to be fit for duty when working and remain fit for the duration of the day. This implies that workers must not be impaired by alcohol, medicinal and/or recreational marijuana, illegal drugs or substances, or prescription drugs (drugs which have been legally obtained with a physician’s prescription). If an employee is required to take prescription drugs, these drugs should not inhibit their ability to proficiently perform their job functions. Further:
• Workers are not to have alcohol, recreational marijuana, illegal drugs, or related paraphernalia in their possession while in the work place or while conducting HFHGB business off-site
• Possession, use, or selling of alcohol, drugs, or drug paraphernalia on HFHGB’s property or in vehicles is prohibited
• Workers are not to permit other workers to consume alcohol or recreational marijuana on HFHGB property unless authorized by the Executive Director
• Workers are not to permit other employees or volunteers to use illegal drugs and substances on HFHGB property
• Use of alcohol for social functions or any circumstances related to HFHGB business may be permitted only with the express approval of the Executive Director. Approval must be obtained to ensure the use of alcohol does not contravene the intent of this policy. Workers are expected to
exercise moderation and under no circumstances consume enough alcohol to become visibly impaired or to allow the level of blood alcohol to be above the limit for the operation of a motor vehicle
Workers may not use machinery and/or vehicles while taking prescription or over-the-counter drugs that impair their ability to work safely
