Position Overview

Understanding and committed to the mission of Habitat for Humanity Grey Bruce (HFHGB), the Salvage Coordinator is is part of a team (employees and volunteers) responsible for providing product procurement through salvage projects to reclaim saleable items from donors, pick-up and delivery of products in compliance with HFHGB’s policies and procedures.

This position will focus on safety and providing top level customer and donor service

Areas of Responsibilities

Coordinate Salvage Operations

  • Assess each project prior to start of salvage following the approved policies and procedures including Health & Safety
  • Arrange for needed staff and/or volunteers to complete salvage projects
  • Ensure the safety of all salvage participants and donors while on site; adherence to all safety policies and procedures
  • Ensure volunteers have a meaningful (positive) experience
  • Provide excellent customer/donor service including friendly greeting, assistance with donors
  • Ensure all tools are kept in a secure location when not in use; notify the Manager of the need for new and/or additional tools
  • Complete all required documentation (i.e. waiver and gift-in-kind forms)
  • Assist with loading and unloading of product
  • Assist with keeping the storage areas safe and clean

Product Pickup and Delivery

  • Respond to donor requests for product pickup; ensure donations are what is accepted and in sellable condition
  • Coordinate and complete pickup of products following a weekly schedule
  • Complete deliveries of product as directed by the Manager


  • Drive HFHGB vehicles and use all equipment in a safe and efficient way according to all relevant legislation
  • Follow all HFHGB safe work practices, safety policies and proceduresNotify the MOD of any safety /hazardous issues



  • Other tasks as assigned by the Manager

Required Education, Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Secondary school diploma; post-secondary preferable in a trade or construction area
  • Strong client service and public interaction skills
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Proficient spoken and written English with the ability to read, count, and write to accurately complete all documentation
  • Possess strong computer skills (email, Word, Excel spreadsheet)
  • Punctual and reliable
  • Knowledge in salvage and environmental areas
  • Knowledge in the use of tools and power equipment
  • Knowledge of truck operation and safety
  • Ability to work with others in a team environment
  • Ability to supervise volunteers and staff with a wide range of skills and abilities
  • Physical ability to move and lift products of varying size and weight (up to 50 lbs.)
  • Ability to adapt to a changing environment and unexpected shifts in priorities
  • Valid driver’s license


  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in construction, renovation or salvage reclamation industry
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience driving a truck, with the ability to operate in a safe and responsible manner
  • Clean driving abstract


  • Full time, 40 hours per week, salaried position
  • Weekends as scheduled
  • Work location is Owen Sound
